VICAR - REVEREND LINDA LIVERSIDGE |
|
Born and bred in London I'm a true cockney. My parents were both 'believers' but I grew up with confusing messages about faith. My mother was Roman Catholic and my father attended any and all sorts of church as long as it wasn't RC! Fortunately I eventually discovered first the Bible, and then through it, a personal faith in Jesus.
My working background is mainly in chemistry, first training with Boots
as a dispensing chemist. When the children were growing up I did a spell
of dispensing the 'hard stuff' as a part-time barmaid before becoming an
A-level chemistry technician in a boys school. I've been very involved
with church based youth work all of my Christian life. I've also done
some 'detached' youth work which I trained for with Youth For Christ. I
am a CYFA Venture camp leader and will be leading on my 31st camp this
year. I trained for ordination at Oak Hill College and served my curacy
in Kensal Rise (both North London) before moving to the North Wingfield
Team in 2001. I often find myself wondering what an earth I'm
doing in Derbyshire and I frequently miss the cockles and whelks of the
jellied eel stall. On the other hand the scenery is much better up here!
My family are very important to me, I am married to Alan who is retired
but works very hard here. He spends most of his time keeping our
enormous garden under control and finding fun things for the men's group
to do. We have 3 children, Daniel, Susan (both married) and Katie who
all very musical and still, unfortunately:-( live in North London. We
miss them loads and even more our three grandchildren, Thomas (5), William (almost 3), Miles (13 months) and recent baby Oliver (April 2008).
Favourite things in my life (apart from the grandchildren) are Apple
Macs and messing around with computers generally, Alan Bennett, U2,
poetry, the Archers and listening to Radio 4. Working
with teenagers, and especially sharing the gospel with them, is still
something I really love doing.
