Messy Church
Clay Cross Church Gets Messy

Bishop Alastair recently joined children and their families
getting stuck in and having fun at the new Messy Church service
at St Bartholomew's, Clay Cross.
Messy Church is a fresh expression of church, where children,
parents, carers, grandparents and extended family meet once a
month (on the fourth Thursday) for a mid-week, after school
service that encourages children to be themselves.

When
they arrive, everyone is welcomed with a drink and a snack and given
some time to unwind and catch up with each other. Craft time is
next, with several tables of crafts set up around the church for
children (and adults!) to have a go at making things related to that
service's theme. |

| The craft time is followed by some singing and a
brief talk about the theme. The evening finishes with everyone
sitting down to a meal together. |

At the most recent Messy Church the theme was Jesus is the Light of
the World, and children did glass painting, made paper lanterns,
designed their own "stained glass" windows with tissue paper and created
sparkling dough craft ornaments.
